Raymond St. Francis, Project Principal
Ray joined ScottAG in 2004, after a decade of managing diverse projects in his own architectural design and project management firm. With a background in both design and construction, he brings to our team a high level of professional service and relevant experience. Among clients in his own practice were GTE Wireless and its successor, Verizon Wireless, for whom he implemented an expansion to 60 Northern California retail stores, including replacement at existing locations of all signage, identity and POS components. For Qlogic Corporation, Freemark Abbey Winery, and Yakpak APT Stores, Ray applied his expertise in problem-solving and facilitation to deliver results responsive to programmatic, budget and schedule constraints.
Earlier in his career, Ray was a Project Manager for the Real Estate & Construction Division of IBM, for whom he managed projects ranging from regional office interiors to high-rise building logo signage and IBM Store re-imaging under Paul Rand, to joint-venture real estate developments in Dallas, Atlanta and Tampa. Prior to IBM, Ray worked in the architectural group at Saul Bass/Herb Yager & Associates in Los Angeles, where he developed the world-wide prototypical service station program for Exxon Corporation and managed its initial prototype series roll-out in Tokyo, Sydney, London, Toronto and Rio de Janeiro.
A registered architect, Ray has worked at many scales of design and fabrication. While the scope may vary, his enthusiasm for analyzing a design challenge and devising a logical solution is a constant in his approach. He is our company’s resource for seeing that programming and design goals are realized, from initial project stages through installation, and is the day-to-day contact for our clients throughout the process.
Completed ScottAG projects include Federal Realty Investment Trust’s Santana Row, a mixed-use office, retail and residential development in San Jose, California. Our scope included street and way-finding signing as well as directory, amenity and custom retail tenant elements, including Rosie McCann’s. On Santana Heights, Ray managed the phased implementation of signage for this 200-apartment podium development, including the refurbishment and installation of two 30’ parking blade signs. He also coordinated our portion of the Eastridge Mall Renovation in the same city, an update to the 1.3MSF shopping center that included monument and signature beacon directionals, parking zoning, building entry and interior way-finding elements for General Growth Properties.
Additional mixed-use projects include BRE’s Avenue64 in Emeryville, California, and Mercer in Walnut Creek, California, for Prometheus Real Estate Group. Both of these were phased-occupancy podium developments with retail and parking below. Ray has also directed work for our hospitality clients, including The Carneros Inn in Napa, which underwent a two-year expansion to add conference, retail, dining and spa facilities, along with 17 new cottages. Over 800 signage & identity components were provided for the resort’s enhancement.
Current projects include a multi-phased renovation of The Lodge at Sonoma for Renaissance Resorts; Hacienda Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a resort condominium re-development of the historic 24-acre property; Espiritu Del Mar in Baja and The Sumgayit Mall in Baku, Azerbaijan, the 2M SF retail portion of a major planned urban development.
